For days, the 9:30 Club posted cryptic notice of a big event, scheduled to happen during the first full week of January, a traditionally dead time for nightclubs.

Well, yesterday on Facebook, the 9:30 Club revealed its plan to liven up that week with a three-day observance of its 35th anniversary called 9:30 World’s Fair.

Here is the 9:30 Club’s announcement in full (edited for our site style):

The legendary 9:30 Club celebrates 35 years as one of the most iconic music venues in the world this year. The Club has received the highest accolades from some of the most notable names in music — Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Pollstar have all named 9:30 Nightclub of the Year.

Beginning Jan. 5 and running through Jan. 7, the 9:30 Club will host a free World’s Fair exhibition celebrating the double anniversary. The event will be an all-encompassing experience highlighting the historic past and present of the 9:30 Club and chronicling 35 years of memories and memorabilia from musicians, staff, and fans.

Attendees will be immersed in interactive visuals and jaw-dropping historical imagery. A limited number of free tickets, each with specific hourly admittance times, will be available through ticketfly.com beginning Monday, Dec. 7 at 10am ET.

In addition, a limited, first-edition, 264-page hardcover book will be issued to commemorate 35 years of the Club. The book will feature never-before seen photos, stories, and firsthand accounts of experiences during the 9:30 Club’s tenure from legends including D.C. icon Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi, Dischord Records), Chuck D of Public Enemy and Sarah McLachlan, the Club’s current co-owners Seth Hurwitz and Rich Heinecke, and scores more.

Fans can pre-order the book on ticketfly.com beginning Monday, Dec. 7 at 10am ET. The book will first be available at the Club’s World’s Fair, with pre-orders shipping in January. The 9:30 Club is famous for its email list of more than 600,000 loyal followers, so the book is likely to sell out quickly. See a preview of the book at http://www.930book.com.

Founded by Dody DiSanto and Jon Bowers, the 9:30 Club originally opened in 1980 in downtown Washington, DC. The Club’s name was derived from its street address, 930 F St. NW. In 1996, co-owners Rich Heinecke and Seth Hurwitz moved the Club to its current location at the eastern end of the U Street Corridor.

Gracing its stage have been legends Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, Al Green, Nirvana, and James Brown; recently-discovered acts like Hozier, Drake, Kacey Musgraves, Ed Sheeran, Leon Bridges, Twenty One Pilots, and Halsey; and arena acts looking for an intimate club play such as Justin Timberlake, Jack White, Pink, the Smashing Pumpkins, and Foo Fighters. It is the most attended club of its size in the world.
