This weekend, DC takes up many celebrations for the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, including a free music festival near the museum — a festival that will include The Roots.

Later on Saturday, Sept. 24, Roots drummer Questlove will turn to his moonlighting job as DJ, and he will play a late-night set at the Howard Theatre. Questlove has visited DC as a DJ quite a few times, and if you’re in New York City, he’s often found in his DJ regular residency at Brooklyn Bowl.

But not every DJ gig by Questlove goes as smoothly as it does at the Brooklyn Bowl! Case in point: To mark Questlove’s 45th birthday earlier this year, Okayplayer TV animated a story by Questlove of a time when Prince replaced him with a screening of the movie “Finding Nemo.” Watch the story (animated by Hectah) via YouTube:

Rest assured Questlove has nothing but love and admiration for Prince, despite his humorous tale! And you will undoubtedly hear beats from many of the other artists with whom Questlove has worked, perhaps including Erykah Badu, Joss Stone, Justin Timberlake, and D’Angelo, among others.

Mind you, Questlove has owns an incredible vinyl collection of more than 50,000 records that he keeps in his own personal climate-controlled library. So he can basically pull out the unexpected at a whim.

So keep the celebration going late on Saturday with DJ Questlove. Tickets are available online!
