Soul singer Izzy Bizu charmed the early audience during Coldplay’s concert at FedEx Field on Sunday, treating the gathering crowd to upbeat R&B numbers with passion and grace.

Coldplay selected Izzy, a 22-year-old singer-songwriter from London, to open for them on their current 15-date North American tour. Izzy took the opportunity to headline her US debut at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn on July 31, and Parklife DC caught her when she came to town soon afterward.

Izzy released her debut full-length album A Moment of Madness in September 2016 via Epic Records, and she performed a selection of songs from the record when opening for Coldplay. She started her set at FedEx Field with “Adam & Eve,” a bubbly tune about temptation and desire that certainly showcases Izzy’s admiration for Amy Winehouse. Izzy has a delightfully bluesy voice that tilts toward being playful.

With “Lost Paradise,” Izzy imparts more of a smoldering, smoky character to her voice as she sings of lost love. Still, the jazzy number is way more snappy than maudlin. Watch a live performance of “Lost Paradise” by Izzy Bizo for Vevo UK Lift on YouTube:

Izzy gets more passionate as she channels loneliness into “What Makes You Happy,” where she sings of the distance between young lovers. She poured herself into the show-stopping tune, stepping away from her microphone to sing with her whole body. Still, there is something uplifting about her passions. The lady has a rare talent to lift your spirits even when she’s feeling blue, and you may even find a spring in your step despite a little loneliness and despair.

Coldplay continue touring with Izzy as their first opener tonight, Aug. 9, in Montreal. She stays with them for the rest of the dates on their North American tour, listed below. Be sure to go to the show early to catch Izzy’s performance! At Fed Ex Field, she actually took the stage about 15 minutes prior to her scheduled showtime. It’s worth your while to catch her then.
