Folk quartet Big Thief released their second album Capacity on June 9 via Saddle Creek, and they have been touring extensively to support it. Big Thief perform next in DC at Black Cat on Saturday, Sept. 9 in a co-headlining show with Lucy Dacus.

Big Thief’s second album finds its members — Adrianne Lenker (guitar, vocals), Buck Meek (guitar), Max Oleartchik (bass), and James Krivchenia (drums) — gaining more and more buzz with their powerful and memorable songs.

Said Adrianne of the lead single for the new album, “‘Mythological Beauty’ reveals the origin of the scar on the right side of my head. It is a conversation between parent and child; between child and child; between the child within the parent and the child within the child; and between the parent within the child and the parent within the parent.”

“Lenker is possessed of a voice that lilts, trembles, grunts, and growls — and she does seem to let it possess her as she spills forth songs about family, youthful trauma, and growing up,” said NPR’s Rachel Horn in a review of the band’s performance at the Newport Folk Festival in July.
