Peter Hook, former bassist for New Order and Joy Division, is once again touring the “greatest hits” of both bands with a special tour featuring Peter Hook & The Light performing the Substance compilation albums from each. Peter Hook & The Light launch the 2018 Substance Tour on April 26 at Union Transfer in Philadelphia.

The 27-date tour wraps up on June 4 at the State Theatre in St. Petersburg, Florida, and it includes a special show at the Wiltern in Los Angeles on May 18 — the anniversary of the death of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis — in which the band will perform the Joy Division albums Unknown Pleasures and Closer.

Factory Records originally issued the New Order Substance compilation in 1987 and followed it with the Joy Division Substance compilation in 1988. Running from “Ceremony” in 1981 up to “True Faith” in 1987 (recorded especially for the album), New Order’s Substance explores the band’s catalogue, including “Temptation”, “Thieves Like Us”, “The Perfect Kiss,” and “Bizarre Love Triangle”. Joy Division’s Substance features all the singles that did not appear on the albums, such as “Transmission,” “Komakino,” “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” and “Atmosphere”, as well as their B-sides, tracks from their EP “An Ideal for Living,” and the Factory Records sampler.

Peter Hook & The Light have toured Joy Division and New Order’s albums extensively since debuting “Unknown Pleasures” in 2010 with dates all across the world. Although Peter Hook & The Light have appeared at 9:30 Club and The Howard Theatre in the past, there is no DC date for the current tour.
