New Orleans singer-songwriter Luke Winslow-King mixes Mississippi delta blues, folk, jazz, and roots rock on his new album, Blue Mesa, due this Friday, May 11, via Bloodshot Records. On the previous night, Luke performs at Pearl Street Warehouse on Thursday, May 10.

Blue Mesa features long-time collaborator and blues guitar dynamo Roberto Luti, Chris Davis of King James and the Special Men, and Mike Lynch on organ (Bob Seger, Larry McCray), among others and was recorded in a castle in rural Italy.

Hailing originally from the northern Michigan town of Cadillac, Luke started performing in a local bar band at age 14. He formed The Winslow-King Blues Band at 16, and he majored in jazz guitar at the Interlochen Arts Academy.

At age 19, Luke went to Louisiana. He recorded his first self-titled debut album in 2007, and he earned his dues busking on Royal Street in New Orleans during the day while working in clubs on Frenchman Street at night. In 2008, Luke recorded Old New Baby mostly live at Preservation Hall in New Orleans. Over the course of releasing four studio albums in nine years, Luke collaborated with New Orleans legends and wunderkinds alike, including Dr. John, Boutté, Roberto Luti, Little Freddy King, Washboard Chaz, and Meschiya Lake.

Luke joined Bloodshot Records in 2013, releasing The Coming Tide, and he followed up with 2014’s Everlasting Arms and 2016’s I’m Glad Trouble Don’t Last Always.
