Ticket Giveaway: Algiers @ Black Cat — 6/28/18

Post-punk-meets-gospel band Algiers released their second album, The Underside of Power, in 2017 via Matador Records. The quartet has been touring a lot, and they return to Black Cat on Thursday, June 28. You can win tickets to go with Parklife DC.

The music is “a nakedly confrontational meet of gospel soul and industrial beats, of Bad Seeds guitars and occasional Prince-esque croon. At the foreground is vocalist Franklin James Fisher, his voice colossal as it ranges from passionate address to shivering falsetto, from the righteous anger of opener ‘Walk Like A Panther’ to the worn-out melancholy of ‘A Hymn For An Average Man’, commanding and frankly overwhelming even at a whisper – forget singalongs, the proper response here is awe,” said Christian Cottingham in a review for Drowned in Sound.
