DC-based Americana band Kentucky Avenue performed a set at The Hamilton Live recently. The performance on Saturday was in support of Celtic-rock sensation, Scythian, who headlined the evening.

Kentucky Avenue is Stella Schindler (lead vocals and guitar) and Dave Ries (lead guitar and vocals). Greg Watkins frequently sits in with the duo on upright bass. The group, which maintains a steady presence on the DC local music scene, performed at Appaloosa Roots Festival (winner of Parklife DC’s inaugural Thrushie Award for Best DC Music Festival) this past summer. It was there that they forged a friendship with Scythian (founders and host of Appaloosa), and the two bands have shared a stage multiple times since the summer.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, Bruce Springsteen, Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Jack White, June Carter, and Johnny Cash, Kentucky Avenue weaved their own tapestry of Americana and alt-country threads. The band released an album in 2017 — Nothing Here Is Mine.

Kentucky Avenue next takes the stage on Jan. 26 at Pearl Street Warehouse when they open for Justin Trawick and the Common Good. (Buy your tickets online.) The show is Justin’s 9th Annual 29th Birthday show.
