In 2017, Los Angeles punks Jawbreaker made a lot of fans happy when the band announced they would reunite for RiotFest. The reunion took hold for the reconstituted group, and Jawbreaker now performs at The Anthem on Thursday, March 28.

Between 1990-95, Jawbreaker released four well-regarded studio albums before breaking up. On March 16, the band posted the following message on social media:

“Today is the 30th anniversary of our first show as Jawbreaker at the legendary Club 88 on Pico Boulevard in West LA. We spent an afternoon in early 1989 with 88 owner Wayne Mayotte trying to get him to listen to our demo cassette. He talked for hours about the early days of punk, The Go-Go’s and Penelope Spheeris’ The Decline of Western Civilization documentary before finally hitting PLAY. He nodded along and eventually agreed to give us the show. Director’s Chair was actually Imperial Butt Wizards. They’d booked the show under this pseudonym with some other band’s demo. They were led by Michael Cuercio from The Three O’Clock. Being big fans, we were more than honored to share a stage with them. The usual suspects turned up to see us off on our maiden voyage: Christy, Treece, Rich, Jay, Nino, Kip and Jeff, all of our family and friends. Now here we are 30 years later, at it again, same as it ever was.”

Watch the official music video for “Fireman” by Jawbreaker on YouTube:

Of Blake Schwarzenbach (vocals, guitar), Chris Bauermeister (bass), and Adam Pfahler (drums), James Christopher Monger wrote for AllMusic, “Independently minded and adhering to the old-school D.I.Y. punk mentality, West Coast punk-pop trio Jawbreaker’s street-smart — yet poetic — lyrics, spirited musicality, and marathon live shows put them a cut above contemporaries like Green Day and blink-182.”
