Deerhunter released Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?, the band’s eighth studio album, earlier this year via 4AD. Dirty Projectors dropped Lamp Lit Prose on Domino Records last year. The two bands now join forces for a tour, and they visit 9:30 Club on Sunday, Sept. 8!

9:30 Club hosted Deerhunter in March, but we haven’t seen Dirty Projectors in the city in a spell! Lamp Lit Prose, Dirty Projectors’ most recent album, was produced by core member David Longstreth in Ivo Shandor, his LA studio, and features guests from HAIM to Amber Mark and The Internet’s Syd for a collection of tracks that Dave described as “extroverted and uplifting.”

Intricate arrangements and delicate harmonies accompany lyrics that insist on hope and optimism in dark times, while the guest features lend a communal, conversational feel, creating a newfound restorative balance. The New York Times deemed the record “the band’s shiniest, catchiest set of songs yet,” and New York Magazine praised it as “bursting with delightful new sounds… feel-good mutant soul.”

Watch Dirty Projects play “I Found It in U” live on July 12, 2018:

The band’s lineup includes Dave as bandleader, guitarist and lead vocalist; Nat Baldwin (bass), Mike Johnson (drums), Felicia Douglass (percussion/vocals), Maia Friedman (guitar/vocals) and Kristin Slipp (keyboards, vocals). Together, they play a tight, dynamic set. Exclaim Magazine, reviewing a recent concert, wrote that “their skill is immense and palpable… musically, the whole band operated on another level.”
