Canadian post-punks Wolf Parade dropped Thin Mind, a highly anticipated fifth album, via Sub Pop last month. Frontman Dan Boeckner and the gents are on tour, and they perform at 9:30 Club on Saturday, Feb. 22.

Every moment spent gazing at our screens is oversaturated with content, an ever-accelerated news cycle conditioning our ever-decreasing attention spans. The struggle to stay present, and to foresee a clear, sustainable future, feels very real. Wolf Parade address this phenomenon head-on with Thin Mind, produced by John Goodmanson (Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, Unwound).

“Thin Mind refers to the way that being around too much tech has made our focus thin,” keyboardist Spencer Krug said.

“It’s opening one more page, scrolling one more thing,” Dan added, “and the weird, sort-of hollow automaton feeling that you get from it.”

In a review of the new album for The Line of Best Fit, Christopher Hamilton-Peach said “Wolf Parade have symbolically and sonically returned to a template that feels as organic as it did with their debut, fifteen years ago.”

“Twinned with a sound redolent of their first three records, Wolf Parade revisit a phase that earmarked them as one of the more sublime acts of their cohort. Initial standout ‘Julia Take Your Man Home’ kicks the album into a triumphant, full-throttle resurrection of the band’s retrograde power-pop peppered high notes, flushed with driving synth and guitar licks; Dan Boeckner’s commanding baritone grandeur remaining in fine-tuned reverential form,” Christopher wrote.
