“Physical distancing” is the new phrase to replace “social distancing.” In the music world that certainly makes sense because although artists and their fans may be physically separated from one another, live streaming has, in some ways, decreased the social distance between us.

Karen Jonas and Tim Bray (along with two Seths) will perform via livestream on Thursday, April 2, as part of Pearl Street Warehouse’s response to keeping live music “live” in this era of physical distancing.

Hear Karen Jonas’ version of Dylan’s “It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry” on YouTube:

Karen and Tim, based in Fredericksburg, Virginia, have been touring northern Virginia, the mid-Atlantic, and southern United States since 2014. To be suddenly yanked away from the opportunity to play in front of people is extremely difficult, especially for those whose livelihoods depend on it. But for now, Karen and company have found a way to maintain a physical distance (as we all are) but reduce the social distance as best they can.

Pearl Street Warehouse has begun broadcasting live streams of a wide variety of artists on a regular basis and will continue to do so as conditions warrant.
