The COVID-19 pandemic canceled the 2020 Wammie Awards ceremony, originally scheduled for March to recognize the best of local DC-area music. But now The MusicianShip, the nonprofit producer of the awards program, unveils a schedule for a virtual Wammie Awards to occur over the week of Monday, July 13, to Friday, July 17, via Event DC’s new virtual forum, Gather.
The weeklong celebration of the 2020 Virtual Wammies, or Washington Area Music Awards, occurs daily Monday through Friday, at 7pm on Gather, which has not yet had a public debut.
The MusicianShip has broken up the Wammie categories over five days, which each day hosted by a different DC musician or personality. Hosts include The Media Prince, Be Steadwell, Johnny Grave, Carly Harvey, Marcus Cook, Brittany Johnson, and more.

Events DC, DC’s face for conventions, sports, entertainment, and cultural events, soon will host virtual art events on Events DC’s Gather platform, which will make its debut with the Wammie Awards.
As the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, Events DC leverages the beauty, history, and diversity of the most powerful city in the world to attract and promote an extensive variety of events, resulting in amazing experiences for residents and visitors alike, and generating economic and community benefits for the city.
The MusicianShip’s mission is to change lives by facilitating music lessons, experiences, and opportunities to benefit those who need them. It is a youth development organization that offers a wide range of music education programs, geared toward enriching the lives of students, their families, and the communities in which they live. Its after-school, summer, master class, and ensemble Programs, such as the Washington Youth Choir, serve youth ranging from 5 years old all the way through the age of 24.
To support The MusicianShip’s free youth programs, the nonprofit stewards an ecosystem of music-based projects, each leading to a singular purpose of uplifting those in need. These projects include the Private Music Lesson Marketplace, the Wammie Awards, and the DC Funk Parade.
