Garage punks The Orwells released their second full-length album, Terrible Human Beings on Feb. 17 via Canvasback Music. The Chicago quintet have been on tour to support it, and they make their return to DC with a show at Black Cat on Saturday, May 27.

The Orwells recently produced a video for the track “Black Francis” from the new album. As you might guess, “Black Francis” is a tribute to the man who fronts The Pixies.

“Felt long overdue that we paid him some direct respect. We’ve been ripping him off for years, hopefully this chips away at the massive debt we’ve got to him,” said guitarist Matt O’Keefe.

Matt’s brother Eddie O’Keefe directed the video for “Black Francis,” and he said he hoped to “channel a sort of ’90s hip-hop energy; something that could compliment the track’s Beastie Boys-like cadence. In an effort to achieve that feeling, we drew inspiration from Spike Lee, using the opening-title dance sequence from Do the Right Thing and his infamous floating subject shots as the foundation of our shoot.”

“The new album found the group recording in Chicago legend Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio Studios and reunited them with acclaimed Arctic Monkeys producer Jim Abbiss. The re-vamped experience brought a rich sound and depth to Terrible Human Beings, a record that details everything from tour party lifestyles to their love-hate relationship with hometown fans,” said Justin Staple for Noisey.
