Chromeo debut their surreal video for “Clorox Wipe,” directed by Patrick Jean. The track is taken from their Quarantine Casanova EP, five tracks written and recorded under lockdown and released earlier this year.

100% of net proceeds from EP digital downloads, physical sales, and merch have been donated, with $20,000 to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp COVID-19 Relief Fund plus an additional $30,000 match donation from Clorox.

Clorox also pledged an additional $25,000 donation totaling $75,000 in COVID-19 Relief Fund donations from Chromeo and Clorox.

The video transforms Chromeo into paper-thin figures — as thin as wipes — meandering through LA and Vegas’ empty streets, eventually dancing atop a flat Earth. “It’s sort of an allegory for everything that’s been flattened since the beginning of the pandemic,” Dave 1 said. “Human interactions, our sense of time, our experience of space. As we’re confined to our screens, it’s all become two dimensional.”

“Right now, between the COVID uptick and the election, everyone’s an anxious mess,” added P-Thugg. “As artists with a platform, it was our duty to raise awareness around the communities most affected by the virus. As purveyors of funky music, it’s also our duty to provide some levity, to lift people’s spirits. We hope this video can achieve that.”

The Quarantine Casanova EP is the first new music from Chromeo since 2018, when their fifth album Head Over Heels was released to critical acclaim. Since then, the duo has kept busy with two years’ worth of shows and more recently, the launch of their very own label Juliet Records, which will see the release of inaugural signee Ian Isiah’s forthcoming AUNTIE project this summer. This marks a new chapter for the band, and the first time they’re stepping out to produce and mentor other artists.

Chromeo is the Grammy-nominated duo of Montreal natives and high school best friends David “Dave 1” Macklovitch and Patrick “P-Thugg” Gemayel. The group — now 15 years into their storied career — rose to prominence with their seminal 2007 release Fancy Footwork, heralding the dawn of the ‘80s electro-funk revival. Their five LPs have been hailed as modern funk masterworks and Chromeo has toured the world over.
