On a recent memorable night at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC, we gathered to celebrate one of the greatest bands in the land, Frankie Beverly and MAZE. With happy feelings in the air the atmosphere was filled with excitement as we all dressed in white, honoring the legendary group.

Experiencing the magic of Frankie Beverly and MAZE live was truly extraordinary at Capital One Arena on June 14. It’s one thing to hear their music on record, but witnessing their performance was a whole different level of joy. I felt incredibly honored to have my mom by my side, who is a huge Frankie Beverly and MAZE fan. This being her first concert of theirs and their final tour made the night even more special.

The energy in the arena was electrifying as people sang along and anticipated their favorite songs. The guitar solo in the middle of the concert displayed so much raw soul. The music resonated deep within our souls with every chord played.

The night was a celebration of Mr. Beverly and MAZE’s remarkable 50-year journey in the music industry. To our surprise, Mayor Muriel Bowser awarded them their own day, June 14, in Washington, DC. This announcement brought tears of happiness to Mr. Beverly’s eyes. Donnie Simpson, a longtime friend of the group, presented flowers and humorously suggested that instead of a farewell tour, they should embark on a Why the Hell Not Tour in another year. We just couldn’t get enough of them.

MAZE’s discography includes nine Gold albums from 1977 to 1993, and their timeless hits like “Happy Feelin’s,” “Golden Time of Day,” “Southern Girl,” “Joy and Pain,” “Before I Let Go,” “We Are One,” “Back in Stride,” “Can’t Get Over You,” and “The Morning After” have become integral parts of our lives. It’s impossible to attend a cookout without hearing at least four of their greatest hits, with “Before I Let Go” becoming an instant dance anthem. And at family reunions, “We Are One” serves as a reminder of our unity.

Frankie Beverly and MAZE have created feel-good music that transcends generations. Their songs bring joy to our lives and create lasting traditions. We are grateful to these legends for their timeless contributions, ensuring that their music will carry on for a lifetime.
