Jessie Reyez’s Paid in Memories Tour recently sold out back to back nights at The Fillmore Silver Spring in support of her latest album of the same name that dropped back in March. On my first time back at The Fillmore in nearly a year, I ended up catching a great show from an artist I didn’t know too much about. I’d heard the name Jessie Reyez for several years and liked the songs that I’d heard, but never really took a dive into her world until I watched her perform at Dreamville Festival in 2023. A great performance will almost always make a fan out of me and Jessie easily checked that box.

People poured in the venue from the moment doors opened, packing the room out wall to wall at The Fillmore Silver Spring on July 6. After a short set from special guest Raahiim, the energy in the room started to boil over as chants of “Jessie, Jessie!” started up on a few occasions. Finally the room went dark as her band hit the stage and the chants turned to cheers. Jessie strolled out on stage in a little red dress, massive black heels and  dark sunglasses as the band started to play the album’s intro track “I NEVER SAID I WAS SANE.”

Jessie’s voice rocked the crowd from beginning to end. She followed up the albums intro with two of my favorite tracks from the project, “BEGGIN 4 LUV” and “GOLIATH” before introducing herself to anyone who might not know her, “Make some noise if you were dragged here today by your significant other or your bestie? Well hello, nice to meet you. My name is Jessie F**king Reyez…” and followed up by giving out her three rules for her shows:

Rule 1: This is a No Shame Zone — Vibe out, dance have fun — no judgement from anyone on how you have a good time.

Rule 2: Go home with no voice —  If you go home sounding like an 80-year-old smoker, then she’s done her job.

Rule 3: Go home feeling better than you came to the show. Let go anything you’re holding on to and be in the moment. Make memories!

Following Jessie’s Rules ensures everyone will have a good time.

Songs like “PALO SANTO,” “Forever,” and “RIDIN”  kept the party vibe high and Jessie even brought her actual Dad out on stage for a dance break at the end of “NYB,” embracing their Columbia heritage. The show only paused once for a video to play of Jessie in the studio talking about how we could all die tomorrow, not wanting to live with regrets, and how those things and how they make her feel is where her music truly comes from. After the intermission video, moving up to the to platform dividing the massive screens decorating the stage, Reyez pulled out her guitar and sat down to perform “FIGURES” as stars rained down around her on the screens. Afterward, she let her guitarist Heather step into the spotlight and cued up the crowd to sing the song to her as she climbed down.

Once Jessie was back down on the main stage, the singalong continued as the crowd sang every single song right back to her the entire night word for word. Jessie continued to flex just how talented she really is, by sitting back down to play the keyboard as she performed “Great One” from her 2017 EP Kiddo. While about half of the show was songs from the new album the other half were older fan favorites from throughout her discography like “Apple Juice,” “Forever” and “Shutter Island.”  In-between songs, she noticed a sign in the crowd near the front of the stage that said “Sign this and I’ll Tat it!,” she had security pass her the sign and a marker and crouched down on stage to sign it before handing it back into the crowd.

Through out the night bras came flying on to the stage from the crowd, Reyez waited and collected them all and hung them from the mic stand while she performed “JEANS.” Jessie finished the show off by having everyone repeat her daily affirmations:

“I am Strong. I am Happy. I am Healthy. I am smart as hell. And when I see fuckery I do not engage. Because I protect my peace. And it couldn’t be me!”

Jessie ended the night off with an amazing performance of “CUDN’T B ME” before thanking the DMV for the love and leaving the stage. Of course, she couldn’t resist and returned pretty quickly for an encore. She said she saw a tweet earlier in the day from someone asking her to perform “Nights We’ll Never Have” and followed it up with “Still C U” before leaving for good this time.

Jessie Reyez’s is literally on tour for the rest of 2025 with the Paid in Memories tour running through December, going all over the world. Be sure to grab your tickets!
