The Queen of the Sugar Trap, Rico Nasty, shut down a sold-out Fillmore Silver Spring not long ago for her homecoming show on her Lethal Tour, in support of her most recent album of the same name. The Maryland rapper has consistently been one of the most diverse artists to ever come out of the DMV music scene, and the way she had the alt-kids along with everyone else packing out the crowd moshing, twerking, and bouncing all in the same show confirmed it.
At The Fillmore Silver Spring on Oct. 18, opening artist SadBoi started the night off with her upbeat alt-blend of reggae, hip hop, house, and pop, which gained the attention of the whole room by the end of her set and set the eclectic tone for the rest of the night. The opening chant from Lethal’s intro record “WHO WHAT IT” rang off as the crowd chanted back and forth with the song before everything went silent.
Then, Rico strolled out on stage with her signature smile and threw up the horns before getting right into the song as the beat came back in. Rico showed out from start to finish for her hometown crowd, barely taking a break as she tore the house down for over an hour.

Throughout the night, Rico played all the fan favorites from her discography, while making sure to play a majority of the new album as well. She bounced back and forth between genres and styles all through her performance, like sandwiching a rap record like “Relative” in between two melodic pop-y tracks like “BUTTERFLY KISSES” and “SAY WE DID.” She followed up with one of her first big records, “Rojo,” named after the red Audi she bought herself when she first hit one million followers on Instagram way back in 2017. She got back into the new album performing “EAT ME!,” ”SOUL SNATCHER,” “ON THE LOW,” and “PINK” back to back.
Still, she found time to work in “Gotsta Get Paid” as well as her features from Doechii’s “Swamp Bitches” and Schoolboy Q’s “Pop,” before teasing the crowd with what was to come with “STFU.”
Ms. Nasty dug into her hyperpop bag towards the middle of her set, performing records like “IPHONE” and her feature verse from the remix of 100 Gecs “Ringtone,” before rolling things way back with the likes of “Key Lime OG” and “Poppin” two of the records that landed her on the 2019 XXL Freshman list, and her hit collaboration with Doja Cat, “Tia Tamera.” She then made the switch to club / house music with her verse from 9lives “My Way” and her remix of Fred Again..’s “Jungle,” once again proving she can do it all.

Rico got the “girly, cute shit” out of the way in the earlier parts of her set, and made sure to send out a warning before getting into the final leg of the set. She told all the pretty girls to move to the side and let everyone know to get the hell out of the way if they weren’t trying to rage because it was time to open up the pit. She told the crowd to open up right in the middle of the room so she could watch, just before DJ Miles dropped the needle on “OHFR?” If “OHFR?” didn’t send everyone into enough of a frenzy, “Smack A Bitch” took things over the top as a scuffle broke out in the crowd, but security quickly put an end to it before the show could even be put on pause.

Rico pushed her raspy voice to it’s fullest, screaming her heart out during “Rage” as well as rock records like “SMOKE BREAK,” and “TEETHSUCKER (YEA3x),” before finishing the set off with “SON OF A GUN.” Rico took out time to show love to the area, saying “it’s been a long time since we had a real bitch coming from the city” before bringing out up and coming DC artist Bri3 to perform her record “Off Me” and being her hypeman for the whole song.
Rico talked about the DMV making the most resilient people and not to let the things that happen to you in life shape you or break you. She closed things out with an encore featuring a brand new record from the “Lethal Deluxe” that has yet to be released, and finished the night off with “Bitch, I’m Nasty” from her debut album and wished everyone a good night as she left the stage.
There are only a few dates left on Rico Nasty’s Lethal Tour, wrapping up in Los Angeles next Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Be sure to grab your tickets while you can.
