Laura Pergolizzi, who goes by her stage name LP, is a performer who keeps growing both as an artist and as a performer. But the one thing that remains constant is her dedication to her fans. And this was in full effect at the Lincoln Theatre Tuesday. On the heels of the release of her album, Heart to Mouth, in December, LP embarked on a worldwide tour, bring not one but two sold-out shows in DC with the first night at the Lincoln Theatre.
Personally it’s been amazing to see LP performing in smaller venues just a few years ago — walking out onto the dance floor to sing with fans — to selling out large theaters, but the one thing that hasn’t changed is the how she commands an audience.
With a stage backdrop on either side of the stage the theater was transformed bringing LP’s performance front and center. And although the Lincoln Theatre is a seated venue, it only took a matter of minutes for nearly the entire audience to be up on their feet as LP and her band started the night off with “Dreamcatcher” from the new album. A song that I can’t help but be reminded of artists like Stevie Nicks when I hear it.
After a few songs things really started to cook with “No Witness” and as LP moved closer to the edge of the stage and reached out into the crowd during “Tightrope” an audience member tossed a sash onto the stage as LP picked it up and sang to the theater, making each person feel like she was singing to them personally. And it was hard to pull yourself away from the performance.

Playing several songs off the new record, LP spiced it up by melding “House on Fire” into a cover of “Paint it Black” by the Rolling Stones. And one of my favorite new songs from her stop last year at the 9:30 Club (see our review here) — “Recovery” — was one of my personal highlights of this night’s performance. Just an amazing song!
LP finished the evening with a three song encore which included fan favorites “Muddy Waters,” “Into the Wild,” and “Lost on You.” LP continues her tour through the summer and it’s definitely one not to sleep on! Find upcoming tour dates here.
