Baltimore’s waterfront provided the backdrop for a night of smooth vocals and R&B as Soul on the Water closed out its inaugural season at Pier Six Pavilion.
The Oct. 1 finale featured Raheem DeVaughn with special guest Daley, bringing the series to a close with a show centered on musicianship, soul, and connection.
Daley opened the evening and immediately set the tone. His distinctive falsetto and soulful delivery translated beautifully to the live setting, creating an intimate feel despite the size of the outdoor venue. His performance was smooth and understated, allowing his vocals to remain the focus while warming up the crowd for what was still to come.
Then came Raheem DeVaughn.
A DMV favorite and veteran performer, DeVaughn looked completely at home on the Pier Six stage. His performance was equal parts concert and experience, as he effortlessly moved through his catalog, interacted with the audience, and demonstrated why he has remained such a consistent presence in R&B for more than two decades.
There is something different about hearing soul music outdoors at night with Baltimore’s Inner Harbor as the backdrop. DeVaughn leaned into the atmosphere, delivering the smooth vocals, romance, and unmistakable grown-and-sexy energy that have long defined his music.

The contrast between the two artists also worked well. Daley brought a softer, more atmospheric approach to soul, while DeVaughn followed with the charisma and commanding stage presence of a seasoned headliner. Their styles differed, but both performances shared a commitment to R&B rooted in strong vocals and genuine connection with the audience.
Soul on the Water was created to celebrate soul, jazz, R&B, culture, and community along Baltimore’s waterfront, and its final night felt like a fitting representation of that vision.
For a photographer, it was also the kind of show that rewards having a camera in hand. Between the expressive performances, intimate moments, and artists genuinely connecting with the crowd, there was plenty to capture through the lens, from Daley’s opening moments through DeVaughn’s closing set.
Soul on the Water did more than close its first season. It left Baltimore with a reason to look forward to the next one.
