When you look up “women who rock” in the dictionary, you’ll see a picture of Bat Fangs! The dynamic duo of glam garage are blasting their way onto stage at Comet Ping Pong on Thursday, Aug. 16 in a tour with The Love Language. (Note this show was originally scheduled for Rock and Roll Hotel.)
Guitarist and singer Betsy Wright (Ex Hex) and drummer Laura King (Flesh Wounds, Speed Stick) turn up the volume and blast through a set flavored by their favorite ‘70s and ‘80s metal/glam/rock influences.
Said The Line of Best Fit in a review of the band’s self-titled debut album, released in January via Don Giovanni Records: “Something as antiquated as occult-themed rock and roll nowadays is rife with the potential for pretense, self-consciousness, and idiocy, yet Wright and King find the sweet spot on that bell curve between the poles of intentional satire and hammy, unintentional self-parody. The duo doesn’t blink through their clear commitment to their ethos while also not exuding an ounce of self-seriousness.”

What’s a live show like? Take the word of Tom Breihan of Stereogum.
“Onstage, [Betsy Wright] sneers and kicks and twirls, just reveling in everything she’s doing,” Tom said. “In Bat Fangs, she plays fuzzed-out, bottom-heavy riffs and blazingly triumphant guitar solos and fast garage-rock chugs, and she sings with a time-honored tough-kid detachment. If a band has only two members, one of those people needs to be an absolute fucking dynamo, and that’s what Wright is.”
