In 1983, The Fixx released their seminal album, Reach the Beach. Frontman Cy Curnin and company toast that album in a 35th anniversary show at The Birchmere on Wednesday, Aug. 15.

The Fixx celebrate Reach the Beach all summer, playing the album in its entirety and then performing other hits and fan favorites from their career. Reach the Beach heralded three Top 40 singles — “One Thing Leads to Another,” “Saved by Zero,” and “The Sign of Fire” — some of the very best songs by a consistently very good band.

The timing of this anniversary tour is particularly welcome, given that The Fixx reunited its full classic lineup in 2012 to record a new album, Beautiful Friction. So, Cy is joined by drummer Adam Woods, keyboardist Rupert Greenall, guitarist Jamie West-Oram, and bassist Dan K. Brown.

This tour marks the first time The Fixx have performed any of their albums in their entirety, but Reach the Beach is an album that demands such a performance. Its songs continue to receive significant radio airplay as well as streams. At The Birchmere, we will surely hear other hits such as “Red Skies” and “Stand or Fall.”

“So, here we are heading back to the beach that brought us to this brave new world way back when. I wonder how many grains of sand have turned into pearls of wisdom since then. We’re excited to find out,” Cy said. Adam echoed Cy’s sentiment: “It’ll be good to get to play these songs while the beaches are still where you’d expect them to be…”
