Bishop Briggs appeared at 9:30 Club on The Championship Tour recently, and Paivi Salonen photographed the show.
In 2018, Bishop Briggs, born Sarah Grace McLaughlin, published her debut album, Church of Scars, via Island Records last year.
“I am so proud to be sharing my first ever album, Church of Scars, with all of you. The title came from the track ‘Hallowed Ground,’ and it was a lyric that said, ‘my heart is a church of scars,'” Bishop said at the time. “It had to be the album title because it’s how I felt while creating what you are about to hear. It was about being unafraid of those wounds. So, with that being said, I hope you feel less alone by hearing this album.”

On Nov. 8, Bishop Briggs releases her second album, Champion. In July, she dropped the title track to the upcoming album with the single, “Champion.”
“‘Champion’ is a song that I wrote when my self-esteem was at an all-time low,” she said. “As a woman, I feel like I have been socially trained to be so many things at once—sexy yet sweet, confident yet humble, independent yet submissive, smart but not too smart—the list is never-ending.”
On Oct. 19 at 9:30 Club, Bishop Briggs opened the show with “Champion,” and she played two additional songs that appear on the upcoming album. She also played seven of the 10 tracks on Church of Scars. In her encore, Bishop added “My Shine,” a new song she has not yet released as a recording.
