Dorian Electra hit 9:30 Club recently in a late show to celebrate music from their expanded second album release, and Katherine Gaines got all of the pictures!
Born Dorian Electra Fridkin Gomberg, the American performer first released Flaymboyant in 2019. They followed that up with My Agenda in 2020.
The world locked down in response to the coronavirus pandemic, and Dorian bounced back with an extended edition of My Agenda. On Feb. 4, they celebrated the expanded album release, and they performed a range of songs from both studio albums to date.
My Agenda of course dominated the evening, with Dorian opening the show with fan-favorite “F the World.”
Watch the official music video for “F the World” by Dorian Electra on YouTube:
Electra, who is known for their high-concept singles, which are each accompanied by a music video all conceptualized, produced and co-directed by Dorian and their co-director Weston Allen, creates a world in which camp is embraced and societal expectations and binaries are deconstructed. Their critically acclaimed project My Agenda, released in Nov 2020, explores a deeper, darker, and even more political side, with Dorian examining the “crisis in masculinity” through a queer lens.
Video projects from the latest album include cinematic artworks for singles “My Agenda,” “M’Lady,” “Barbie Boy,” and “Iron Fist” — all of which were performed at 9:30 Club on Feb. 4.
At the start of 2021, Dorian began to drop a series of covers including ones for Pharrell’s “Happy,” featuring 645AR, Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” Ariana Grande’s “Positions,” and a Tame Impala “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards.” At 9:30 Club, he covered Lady Gaga’s “Replay” in an encore before closing the show with “Career Boy” from Flamboyant.
