On Aug. 5, The Driver Era visited the DC metro area on their Girlfriend World Tour, celebrating their 2021 sophomore album, Girlfriend. The band is soon to release its next album, Summer Mixtape, which features their most recent single, “Malibu.”
The brothers wrote “Malibu” while daydreaming about personal experiences. “‘Malibu’ is about reminiscing on experiences in the best locations,” the band stated. “It’s about getting away. It’s the spontaneous trip you take with someone — maybe you knew them before, or maybe you’re meeting them for the first time.”

Trop-pop duo Summer Salt — singer/guitarist Matthew Terry and drummer Eugene Chung — spent many years building towards their latest album, Sequoia Moon (2021), ever since jettisoning their Dallas, Texas, hometown for the arts-and-culture oasis of Austin after graduating high school in the early 2010s. The band quickly rose through the ranks of the local Austin scene with their 2014 debut Driving To Hawaii, teeming with both the escapism and recklessness of youth and the composure and charm of ‘60s-era pop, doo wop and bossa nova.
Recently, Summer Salt released “April Baby,” a song about Matthew Terry’s late sister Madeleine.
Said Matthew: “After losing her this past year and experiencing April 8th without her for the first time, I decided to write April Baby. The lyrics capture many feelings and experiences around our relationship that would take more time to go in depth on, but if I could sum up this song I would say April Baby is about our time in Spring of 2016 when she came to Montreal during a tour and we flew to Fenway Park during the Boston Marathon. It’s weird how the song kinda has a ‘team spirit’ nature around it because it wasn’t intended but it fits so very well. ‘If we lose we lose, as long as you’re beside me.’ The two of us are huge baseball lovers so in my eyes this is an opening day song.”
