The weather gods smiled down on Greensky Bluegrass as they took the Wolf Trap stage recently. Absent was the unbearable heat and humidity typical for the DMV in mid-August, providing a perfect evening for picnicking and live music for fans of the next-generation bluegrass band from Kalamazoo, Michigan.
GSBG is currently on summer tour in support of its eighth studio album release, Stress Dreams, which dropped January 21, 2022, via Thirty Tigers/Big Blue Zoo Records. The band visited the Filene Center at Wolf Trap on Aug. 12 in a stop on that tour.
When touring took a hiatus during the 2020-21 global pandemic, the band which usually plays in excess of 175 shows a year, dedicated to developing new material. Once circumstances safely permitted, they recorded what would become Stress Dreams during a session in Guilford, VT and two sessions in Asheville, North Carolina. The band co-produced with frequent collaborator and “old friend” Dominic John Davis (Jack White’s touring and studio bassist) and “wizard engineer” and Grammy-winning producer Glenn Brown.

The Wood Brothers opened the evening with a 65-minute set of their brand of American roots music. This was the second of six shows opening for GSBG for The trio consisting of brothers Oliver (guitar) and Chris (bass), along with Jano Rix on percussion.
The band’s most recent album, Kingdom In My Mind, released in 2020, via Honey Jar/Thirty Tigers. It was their seventh studio album release.
