You know good times are here again when DC ska legends The Pietasters return for their annual holiday-times show at 9:30 Club!
And indeed, Stephen Jackson and company perform at 9:30 Club once again on Thursday, Dec. 29.
You can win tickets to see The Pietasters live with Parklife DC!
We called The Pietasters a ska band, but they are earnestly much more than that. The Pietasters came of age around DC in a time of overlapping scenes and influences. The scene was small and all the Punks, Skins, and Mods intermixed in those days. You were as likely to see a Mod at a Scream show as you were to see a Punk at a Toasters show. This varied influence is what informed the covers that the Pietasters played and the originals they wrote trying to emulate their favorite bands. From Two-Tone Ska, to Jamaican crooners like Alton Ellis, to Stax, Motown, harDCore, and British Punk, The Pietasters played what they liked to play.

Favorite song is Change My Ways!
I’d love to see the Pie Tasters at the 9:30 Club
Here’s hoping ska makes a comeback
I like pie! Mmmmm pie.
Love the Pietasters! Not a bad song in their collection.
Hard to pick a favorite, but I think Can’t Stand It wins
I will die on a hill proclaiming that the horns in “Higher” have the greatest lines of music ever recorded. I sing that part, too, because it is perfect. There’s also a down-tempo version of “Ocean” dubbed “Slocean” that is so creepy, even Sting would be impressed. The Pietasters are my very favourite band; the only thing I listened to for the entirety of 2014, in fact. I’m known to be a little bit obsessive.
Every band has “that fan” and I guess that’s me and these guys who never souled out. I’d be so excited to see them again at the 9:30 Club for the end of the year show. Thank you so much.

Let’s go! Oolooloo is on my top 10 albums of all time, and would love to see them in their home town with my 11-year-old daughter.
Oh, and my favorite song is Maggie Mae
Drinking and Driving, cuz it’s so much fun.
Gotta love Maggie Mae; even my grandmother would sing along.
