Most folks know Louise Post as half of ’90s alt-rock band Veruca Salt, and she has now released a solo record, Sleepwalker, and launched a tour in support of her new material. That tour landed at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City recently, and Ben Eisendrath was there to photograph the show.
At Bowery Ballroom on July 15, Louise performed a 20-song set that included eight numbers from Sleepwalker, which was released June 2 via El Camino Media, according to Setlist.fm.
“I have always identified as a sleepwalker,” Louise said in a statement, explaining the inspiration for the album. “I slept-walked around my house routinely when I was a child, and even down the street. I believe in hindsight it was me trying to process what was going on in my home with my parents’ troubled marriage. As far as I know, I stopped sleepwalking after the divorce when I was eight, but it has always been a part of me that I feel protective of, a little girl who I feel sad for.”
Louise played Sleepwalker tracks “Queen of the Pirates” and “Guilty” early in the show and opened her encore with “God I Know.”

As longtime fans of Veruca Salt will be pleased to know, Louise also performed a strong selection of songs from the band, which appears to be on indefinite hiatus and not definitely defunct. She opened the show with “Closer” from IV (2006) and closed the main set with “Save You” from the same album. The encore included “Shutterbug” from Eight Arms to Hold You (1997) and “Hellraiser” from Resolver (2000).
