The Pietasters appear in a concert for their annual end-of-the-year show at 9:30 Club on Friday, Dec. 29! They are joined this year by Crazy & the Brains, Sammy Kay, and DJ Selah.
The Pietasters had a busy December, touring along the East Coast USA from Boston to Asheville, North Carolina and from Nashville to Norfolk, Virginia. So, they are finely tuned and ready to rock!
And of course, The Pietastere were a big draw at the 2023 Supernova Ska Festival in Hampton, Virginia, in September. The DMV legends also are poised to perform at the 2024 Supernova Ska Festival, which has settled into its new home at Fort Monroe in Hampton.
Watch The Pietasters perform “Freak Show” at the 2021 Supernova Ska Festival on YouTube:
The Pietasters are a ska band, surely, but they are earnestly much more than that. The Pietasters came of age around DC in a time of overlapping scenes and influences. The scene was small and all the punks, skins, and Mods intermixed in those days. You were as likely to see a Mod at a Scream show as you were to see a Punk at a Toasters show.
This varied influence is what informed the covers that the Pietasters played and the originals they wrote trying to emulate their favorite bands. From Two-Tone Ska to Jamaican crooners like Alton Ellis to Stax, Motown, harDCore, and British Punk, The Pietasters played what they liked to play.
