Old 97s frontman Rhett Miller recently visited Rams Head on Stage for a solo show, and he played through a lot of songs by the Old 97s.
Steve Satzberg was there to photograph Rhett in concert.
On June 12 at Rams Head on Stage, Rhett Miller continued a solo USA tour as he journeyed to Annapolis from New York City and then Boston. Steve didn’t supply us with a setlist, but recent setlist suggest that Rhett has performed a sprawling show of Old 97s favorites with a few solo songs mixed into the lengthy set.
The Old 97s have been recording since the release of their debut record, Hitchhike to Rome, in 1994. The prolific quartet have continued with the release of their 13th studio album, American Primitive, via ATO Records in April.
Rhett seems to have avoided playing any songs from the new album on his recent tours, but he did dig through the Old 97s catalog.

Rhett has continued to release solo albums, of course, with recent ones published by ATO Records — The Traveler (2015), The Messenger (2018), and The Misfit (2022). Early in the show, he performed “Heart Attack Days” from The Misfit — and in the middle of the show he added “I Used to Write in Notebooks” from The Messenger, according to a setlist.
The Old 97s pick up a few dates in July before hitting the road as full band in earnest in August.
