Texas took over The Fillmore Silver Spring recently as That Mexican OT’s Texas Technician Tour sold out the room for his biggest ever show in the DMV. It’s not often that you see a hip hop show with a crowd full of cowboy hats, boots, and big belt buckles, but OT — along with fellow Texans Maxo Kream, DRODi, and Hogg Booma — brought out the inner cowboy in everyone.

This Texas party took place at The Fillmore Silver Spring on July 24. After Maxo soaked the stage and everyone in the crowd with a water fight, he started with the performance of his latest single “Eye Know.” DJ Skelz stepped out and kept the crowd warm as people dried off the stage. He started the chant, “THAT MEXICAN,” with the crowd responding, “OT,” over and over as the stage filled up with people from backstage and smoke billowed around the room.

The lights went black and Alice In Chains’ “Man in the Box” started to play, soon after OT creeped out through the fog to the stage dressed like he was going to the beach. He laughed, showing off his diamond grillz as he welcomed everyone in a way only OT could, “DMV what’s up baby? I was on the bus asleep and just woke up and came out to this. Where the hell are we? DC? Maryland?”

Once That Mexican OT (born Virgil René Gazca) figured out where he actually was, he told everyone to light their weed as he started things off with the smokers anthem “September 8th”, followed by “V-Man” both from his 2022 project “Nonsense & Mexican Sh*t”, before heading into “02.02.99”; named after OT’s birthday, the intro to his most recent project.

The Lonestar Luchador ran back and forth from one side of the stage to the other like a wrestler going to each turnbuckle hyping up the crowd. He soon decided to hop off stage onto the barricade to touch the people around him and feel the love. He moved all the way across the front of the room, performing in different sections of the barricade, smoking joints, recording videos on people’s phones, and signing autographs before making his way back to the stage all without missing a beat.

The entire night was controlled chaos as phones, t-shirts, boots, hats, Mexican flags, and all kinds of merch were being thrown back and forth from the crowd to the stage for OT autograph or a selfie video from the man himself. A bra even slingshotted it’s way to the stage landing OT’s feet before he picked up yelling out “Aye who boobies did this come from?,” before wearing it on his head for the next few songs. He’d stop in between records making sure to sign everything that made it on stage, pointing out people he noticed in the crowd, and even answered a fan’s Facetime call, jokingly asking the caller “What you sitting in the dark like that for? Oooh you nasty…”.

OT mostly stuck to his two most recent albums, Texas Technician and Lonestar Luchador, throughout the night as the two projects have skyrocketed his status to the headliner he is now. After a handful of songs he asked the crowd what they want to hear and every crowd request came from the two most projects. Records like the hit singles “Johnny Dang” and “Twisting Fingers” had the room bouncing and crowd surfing, while “Barrio” had them rapping in Spanish and waving cowboy hats in the air, and “Breannan” had everyone whaling at the top of their lungs about their most hated ex.

The night ended with OT talking about his late mother Sophia that passed away when he was just eight years old, and how all of this was her dream for him, even as a young child. He talked about how she always knew he would be great but she could never of imagined her baby boy Virgil would become That Mexican OT. He performed “Muchos Gracias,” a thank you letter to his fans as well as his mom, before wishing everyone a safe ride home and hanging around on stage to sign even more autographs after the show was over.

The Texas Technician Tour seems to be never ending as new shows are still being added to the list, but it is currently wrapping up in Arkansas in November. Make sure to catch OT and the boys on the road while you can, it’s a one of a kind show you won’t want to miss.
