Fantasia recently graced the stage of The Theater at MGM National Harbor for her first of two sold-out shows. Before she began her set, she gave the disclaimer, “Ladies, if your feet hurt, take your shoes off!” This was a warning of the foot tapping and soul-snatching event about to take place. The crowd erupted in laughter but were still not prepared for what was to come.

At MGM National Harbor on July 27, the American Idol winner proved why she has always been a fan favorite. She blew the roof of the building effortlessly. Whether she was accompanied by her amazing band or belting out notes a capella, she left no doubt that her mic was indeed on.

The concert felt intimate and warm. Fantasia has a way of making those in her presence feel her love. There was a special moment during her slowed down performance of “Lose to Win” that felt spiritual and testimonial. Tears poured down her face as she poured affirmations into the crowd, me included. I had heard the song a million times over but the lyrics touched me in a new way as she preached, “Sometimes you lose but you win again… and bigger.”

The party continued as Fantasia channeled her inner Tina Turner with an electric rendition of “Proud Mary.” She encouraged the crowd to step into the aisles and join the party to which they gladly obliged.

After singing the highly anticipated viral hit “When I See You”, in true Fantasia fashion she took the shoes off! She then reminded the audience how much she loved DC and began to sing a medley of classic Go-Go hits! Everyone jumped to their seats and helped the singer finish the lyrics to Rare Essence’s “Overnight Scenario” and E.U.’s “Da’ Butt.”

Fantasia looked beautiful and sounded flawless. The North Carolina native put on a show that left fans wanting more.
