The Doobie Brothers recently delivered a warm, nostalgic performance at Jiffy Lube Live while on The 2024 Tour.

Below a giant video screen and banks of lights, the band took the stage on August 4 to cheers and whistling from their fans and promptly launched into the up tempo “Rock Me a Little While.” The evening was off to a great start, as the band delivered a 20-song set of their biggest hits and more.

The setlist included fan favorites such as “Listen to the Music,” “Long Train Runnin’,” “Black Water,” and “Takin’ It to the Streets,” as well as newer material like “Cannonball” from their 2021 album Liberté.

The show featured the trio of lead singers Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston, and Michael McDonald, whose harmonies on tracks like “Rockin’ Down the Highway,” “Jesus is Just Alright,” and “It Keeps You Runnin'” took the fans on a trip back to the bands radio dominating heyday.

“Black Water” gave Patrick Simmons a spotlight to show off his down home vocal style and guitar picking and he took advantage to the fullest.

Behind his keyboards, Michael McDonald’s distinctive, soulful R&B soaked voice was a definite highlight of songs like “Minute by Minute,” “You Belong to Me,” and “What a Fool Believes” for the enthusiastic crowd.

Guitarist Tom Johnston’s rich, emotive voice shone on the tracks he sang lead on, especially “Long Train Runnin’” and fan favorite and set closer, “Listen to the Music”.

The Doobie Brothers’ performance at Jiffy Lube Live was a testament to their enduring appeal and musical legacy, from their start in California in the ‘70s through today, 50 years later.
