Wale, DC’s homegrown hero, recently ended his sold-out tour at MGM National Harbor. The surprise show was added after hundreds of fans flooded Wale’s social platforms in confusion as to why his home city did not make the cut for his tourdates release. It appears he had held out because he had a trick up his sleeve — as he announced the DC date along with a week-long roster off events to coincide with the one-year anniversary of “Wale Day” here in the District. The week’s events provided many opportunities for him to give back and connect with the city.
For over 15 years Wale has delivered hit after hit with ease. His poetic flow mixed in with R&B presence has kept his fanbase loyal. There are also times his flow is accompanied by DC’s notable sounds of Go-Go which can be heard on tracks like “Pretty Girls” and “Bait.” Wale has a notable roster that includes heavy hitters such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Lloyd, Rick Ross, and UCB Band to name a few.
At MGM National Harbor on Nov. 15, the show opened with the song “Bad,” which features vocals by Tiara Thomas. The crowd erupted as Wale entered with his trademark swag. His stage allowed for the rapper to shine as LED screens provided visuals that illuminated the artist. As always, his energy was unmatched. He moved across the stage leaving no spot untouched. He made it his business to give everyone in the room a night to remember.

Wale gave out roses to the ladies in the crowd as he made his way through the audience. He left no section untouched. To everyone’s surprise he even went to the highest section in the room and rapped as he hung over the balcony. The crowd went wild as they looked to the sky watching Wale do his thing.
Wale performed over 32 songs. Such hits as “Pole Dancer,” “LoveHate Thing,” “Sabotage,” and “Black Bonnie” left the crowd, including myself hoarse as we became a part of the show singing along. Wale felt the love and even became emotional as he took it all in. He has always shown love for his home city, and it was a great feeling to see the love poured back into him. He may have passed out a couple dozen roses to the audience, but it was a beautiful thing to see him receive his well-deserved flowers from thousands of attendees.
