Very cool punk rock show at Nevermore Hall in Baltimore: veteran rockers Descendents and Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls were supported by NOBRO. If you’re reading this, I assume you’re already familiar with Descendents and Frank, and you already know they both always put on a great show, so the TLDR here is: “Go see NOBRO!”
I’ll start with the ladies from Montreal, who opened the show at Nevermore Hall on Feb. 20. This 5-piece new-age punk band is everything I’m looking for when I go to see live music. NOBRO explodes with energy and conviction, and they absolutely rock. They took control of the Nevermore crowd and didn’t let go until they left the stage. Two thumbs up, 5 stars, 10/10. Give a listen to their latest album, Set Your Pussy Free, and hope they come back to the DMV soon.

Next up was Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls. Frank always draws a crowd and puts on a great show. Again, energy and conviction. And The Sleeping Souls are an excellent live band. Frank is someone I kind of missed out on for a long time, and I can’t figure out how I missed him. I got hooked on his livestreams during the COVID lockdown, and I saw him in person for the first time in 2021. As an aside, I asked his team if I could get a photo pass to bring a camera to that 2021 show and it was one of the first concerts I ever shot. Thanks again, Frank! The Baltimore show was my fourth, and Frank’s 3,017th. Frank never disappoints, and he always gets the crowd involved, whether singing along or propelling him while he crowd-surfs.

Descendents never seem to lose a step. For a band that’s been around for 40-ish years, they still put on a great show. With the bar set high by the first two bands, Descendents managed to take the crowd even higher.
And they managed to squeeze more than 30 songs in their 75-minute set. Descendents also have never shied away from expressing their opinions about the world in their songs, and many of those songs seem just as relevant today as the day the were written. The only update to ‘Merican, for instance, was Milo’s introductory, “Fuck Trump!” The crowd was definitely entertained, with lots of moshing and singing along. Good times. If you missed this show, you can catch them when they come to The Anthem in September supporting Social Distortion.
