On Jan. 9, DC indie poppers Mystery Friends release On the Floor!, a five-song EP. They celebrate the EP release with a show at The Atlantis on Saturday, Jan. 11.
The timing of The Atlantis show throws us back to a year ago, when Mystery Friends similarly headlined The Atlantis upon the release of their sophomore full-length album, Utopia. Mystery Friends returns to The Atlantis not only with new music but a few lineup changes!
Fear not: Mystery Friends still features the founding duo of Abby Sevcik (vocals) and Dave Mohl (synth/guitar). And they benefit from the sonic muscle of Jay Nemeyer (guitar) of Color Palette and drummer Enzo Ferroggiaro! But Mystery Friends bids farewell to Seth, who moves away from DC soon while welcoming Annie Guske, who brings fresh vocals and synths.
Mystery Friends recently released “Rising Star,” a single from the On the Floor! EP. Of the song, the band said, “This one goes out to all of our fellow indie artists in their everlasting fight against the algorithm to be seen and heard, who lipsync to screens, who keep writing those catchy hooks, who keep making art ‘just ‘cause you want to.'”
