Echosmith — siblings Graham, Noah, and Sydney Sierota — delivered an intimate evening of pop music at DC’s Pearl Street Warehouse.

The group are celebrating 10 years since emerging with their original blend of instrumentation, soft electronic undertones, and powerful vocals. Lead singer Sydney has a voice that can be both lilting (“Tell Her You Love Her”) or forceful (“Sour.”)

Throughout the night, the siblings played off each other, and told stories of being a band together for a decade. Their love for each other is palpable in how synced they are on stage.

Watch the official music video for “Tell Her You Love Her” by Echosmith (featuring Mat Kearney) on YouTube:

Graham provides a steady beat that never overpowers, with Noah grooving out on his bass. Until 2016, Echosmith had a fourth member, guitarist, their other brother Jamie Sierota. The lack of a guitarist is noticeable, given a band that could absolutely play or punch every synth effect 100% live, relies quite heavily on tracks.

No matter. Sydney’s crystalline vocals are 100% live pierce through the artifice. As does the groups’ use of front-of-stage tomtoms that accented many of the numbers.

Lisa Heller and Jackie Evancho provided support on the show. And if one name sounds particularly familiar, Evancho made a name for herself singing classical music, operatic tunes, and elegant Broadway numbers. But on this night, Evancho performed six original pop tunes.

Evancho told me she made the turn to pop as a decision during COVID. “Everybody reinvents themselves, right?” She was at her best when she used that supernatural, classical tone of hers overtop a pop loop.

By the time Echosmith got to their biggest hit, “Cool Kids,” the room was one big sweaty, partying mass fully enveloped in the music. I have a feeling these Cool Kids will be celebrating another decade together in 10 years.
