Virginia soft rock duo Mo & Mary Mac performed at Songbyrd Music House recently, and Steve Salzberg was there to photograph them!

At Songbyrd Music House on August 31, Mo & Mary Mac delighted an audience with their voice and guitars. They shared a bill with openers Eli Waltz and Gage Rhodes.

Mo Safren, short for Morris, is a native of Culpeper, Virginia. He is a pianist and singer that has studied under some of the best teachers in the world at the Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Virginia. Mo maintains a deep love and understanding of music, which keeps him passionate about all his musical endeavors.

Mary Mac was born to be a vocalist. She has words and a voice that can quiet a room. Her energy and love for her craft can be felt by any who have the pleasure of witnessing her perform

Mo & Mary Mac joined forces in April of 2022 when they met at a local music festival. They shared the stage with seven other musicians and rocked out. After that day, Mo and Mary started a duo group and have covered a lot of ground in a short amount of time. Together Mo & Mary Mac bring a loving energy to any room with their smooth harmonies and heart-warming original songs.

Eli Waltz is a world traveler and folk-rock musician who focuses the sum of his experiences on the road into a soulful, singular sound. His music is eclectic, drawing from the musical traditions of American Blues, “rock ‘n’ roll”, Chinese Guqin and European Baroque music; his lyrics draw upon the poetic traditions of the Beat Generation.

He is heralded for his whimsical, philosophical lyricism, unconventional chord progressions and gut-punching harmonica solos. He weaves in traditional Chinese music–inspired by months and years living in Beijing and Yunnan as a working musician–and classical music to create his signature folk rock sound.
