When two major artists team up to create music and embark on a tour to bring it to their collective fan bases, it’s unquestionably going to draw large numbers of listeners to take in the occasion.
A massive crowd turned out this past weekend to take in the monstrous double-headliner of Beck and Phoenix, two forces joined over the past year to release what’s become a well-received single — “Odyssey” — just before kicking off a tour that started on the West Coast and wrapped up this past weekend at Merriweather Post Pavilion.
Listen to “Odyssey,” the single released this summer by Beck and Phoenix, via Spotify:
Thousands of concertgoers grooved in their seats or up on the lawn all night long on Sept. 10 as first Phoenix — a band with the same lineup since it formed in Versailles in 1995 — and then Beck — touring with a lineup that hasn’t been together for years — lit up the huge stage with back-to-back remarkable sets.
The thrilling evening culminated with both groups on stage as well as opening acts Weyes Blood and Sir Chloe along with balloons, costumes and all the effects in a wild and festive tour-ending finale presentation of the Beck classic “Where It’s At.”
