Greta Simone Kline, known on stage as Frankie Cosmos, recently kicked off her 2023 fall tour in DC with support from the band Good Morning. She played new tracks off of her most recent release, Inner World Peace, and brought her unique indie-pop sound barely above a whisper to the 9:30 Club.
Currently, her band members consist of Luke Pyenson on drums and backup vocals, Alex Bailey on bass guitar and keys, and Lauren Martin on keys, synthesizers, and harmonies. It was this group of musicians’ first tour on stage together — and they definitely delivered to a packed venue.
Released last year, Inner World Peace is Frankie Cosmos’ fifth full-length studio album. The deluxe album, renamed as Clean Weird Prone, was released in 2023. The short songs feel like short notes on falling in love with growing up, bringing themes and imagery of nostalgia.

One thing immediately striking was the track times, with most songs under two minutes each. At 9:30 Club on Sept. 22, the set balanced out with new songs as well as fan favorites, wrapping up with her most popular hit, “Fool” which gained popularity on the Tiktok app over the past year.
It was also an exciting time for Good Morning, the opening act, which played new songs. Good Morning is duo Stefan Blair and Liam Parsons, who hail from Australia and have been making music together since 2014. Their most recent album, Barnyard, was released in 2021, but there has been no shortage of music from them, as this year they also released two singles, “Dog Years” and “Queen of Comedy.”
Though they sometimes tour with a band, this bill with Frankie Cosmos is “duo mode,” meaning just Blair and Parsons. Fans were excited about an intimate set. Their upcoming West Coast tour will feature their band, appropriately titled “band mode.”

In addition to new songs not performed before, Good Morning played tracks from their discography, including their most recent album, Barnyard. With several tracks featuring their band, this intimate set was not one to miss and not one you can catch on Spotify.
Frankie Cosmos was still, focused, and in the zone for the majority of the night. Toward the end, she interacted with the crowd, accepting gifts of flower crowns and posters from her loyal fanbase. It was clear the crowd was full of returners and long-time fans, who sang along all night.
