Picking a spot in the national capital for Halloween can sometimes be difficult as there are numerous events to choose from each year. But making the decision to go to the King Princess late show at 9:30 Club was one of the best decisions you could have made. King Princess, who is currently touring supporting her new album Girl Violence, put on a fantastic show for the sold-out crowd with non-stop energy. It was fun for all, thanks in part to great music and vocals. The band played well together, and they were a joy to watch for the evening.

Sasami opened the show in dynamic fashion clad in black leather, singing in near darkness. Sasami is currently opening dates for King Princess and in support of her latest album Blood on the Silver Screen. Her career to date has seen her play with major acts Socceer Mommy and Yeule. Sasami had a very dynamic opening set and played some of her tracks, including “Honeycrash” and “I’ll Be Gone,” setting the stage for King Princess.

King Princess and band took the stage playing well beyond midnight and finishing off a great Halloween with a tremendous set of songs. King Princess and band jumped onto age dressed as KISS members for their Halloween costumes — to everyone’s surprise and delight. Most of the audience also dressed up for the event.

King Princess lead singer Mikaela Straus (from the Straus musical family in New York) was dressed as Starchild, the character of Paul Stanley from the band KISS, as the band launched into “Cherry” to open the set at the 9:30 Club. King Princess was focused throughout the event and sang exceptionally well with band backing her in excellent form. She routinely talked to the crowd during the performance to huge support.

Halfway through the show, King Princess hit their peak with “Pussy Is God” and “Girl Violence,” songs that normally fill important parts of their nightly set. And near the end of their show, the band played exceptional versions of “Fantastic” and “Talia” before closing with “Ohio.”

King Princess continues to blaze a trail since the release of her first EP, Make My Bed, in 2018. Since then, she has played major festivals — Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Glastonbury — and toured with Harry Styles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Kacey Musgraves to name just a few. She has also released three albums, Cheap Queen in 2019, Hold on Baby in 2022, and then her latest this year with the Girl Violence LP.
