For more than 20 years, Annie Clark has kept her personal life at a distance from her success on the stage, in the studio and on the big screen as the musical force known worldwide as St. Vincent.
But with her seventh and latest studio album, All Born Screaming, the talented vocalist and multi-instrumentalist has assembled what she believes to be her most flourishing and intimate collection of songs to date. It’s also Clark’s first self-produced record, but it features an assortment of high-profile contributions, including the likes of Dave Grohl and Cate Le Bon.
Those songs rang true in St. Vincent’s recent performance at The Anthem in DC.

The Oklahoma-born, Texas-raised artist is a celebrated guitar player and continues to set herself apart as a visionary songwriter, and each St. Vincent album has taken a different direction than the previous as Clark’s amassed a long list of awards, including three Grammys.

With All Born Screaming, released in April through Virgin Music Group, Clark has conceived what she’s deemed “post-plague pop,” and this month it’s been taking shape on large stages along the East Coast. On Sept. 13, she played seven of the album’s tracks across a 20-song setlist.
St. Vincent packed The Anthem in District Wharf as excited fans battled through Friday night traffic jams to gather in the state-of-the-art venue. Backed by her explosive band and taking full advantage of the advanced sound and lighting system, Clark vividly presented newly unhinged tracks along with some of the favorites that have helped make her a global star.
