Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Renny Conti continues to establish himself as one of the most compelling new voices in indie music with the announcement of his signing to Mom + Pop Music and the release of his poignant new single, “Valley Ford,” released only days ago. The track marks Conti’s first release since his critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, which drew comparisons to indie legends like Elliott Smith and Sufjan Stevens for its emotional depth and raw sincerity.
The rising talent also announced his signing to Mom + Pop Music.
Renny’s latest offering, “Valley Ford,” is a thought-provoking and introspective track that preserves the signature lyricism at the heart of his music, while stepping into a richer, more expansive sonic world. Conti sings lyrics like, “Nothing ever hurts if you never let it touch you,” and “Why am I afraid of losing people that I barely know?” with such visceral emotion that they sting most familiarly.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Conti said, “Valley Ford was written after a trip I took to visit my parents at their home in Sonoma one winter. My girlfriend and I took their car up the coast through Bodega Bay, wearing my parents’ trench coats, and walked down some rickety stairs through the fog and rocks to the ocean, and on the way back, I got an ocular migraine. I couldn’t see anything and it started storming.
“It was initially recorded for my last record, but it wasn’t fully complete at the time. After showing the unfinished version to some friends, I realized it just needed a couple more elements to be finalized. The lap steel and lead guitars in the middle and the big fuzzy blown out guitars at the end really brought it together and were the cherry on top, in my eyes. After those were added, I loved it.”
The accompanying visualizer, shot on black-and-white film along a stark coastline, is as haunting and evocative as the track itself—featuring intimate glimpses of Conti as he quietly explores the landscape. His artistry feels intentional and quietly bold, yet always relatable and deeply human.
