The quintessential pop band of it-girls, The Aces, recently released their new album Gold Star Baby via SoundOn. A concept album that doesn’t take itself too seriously, Gold Star Baby is a metaphorical club in every city where if you know… you know. But everyone and anyone is invited to the best party of the year.

The Aces perform live at 9:30 Club on Saturday, Nov. 15. As an added bonus, The Regrettes frontwoman Lydia Night opens the show in support of her debut full-length studio album, Parody of Pleasure.

If their previous album is the backstory of discovering their identity, Gold Star Baby is in turn a celebration of queerness and escapist, sapphic, disco-pop fun. The largely self-produced album isn’t just an evolution for the 4-piece, but where they’ve been headed all along as they shed the weight of painful transparency and allow listeners to see them arrive liberated.

The Aces perfectly sum it up with, “This album is all about joy, confidence, even cockiness, and sex appeal. We feel now that we’re grown women, we can explore those things in a way that feels authentic and exciting. This album is for anyone that’s looking for an escape in the more than challenging world we live in. This album is a celebration. Welcome to ‘Gold Star Baby.’”

The Gold Star Baby World Tour kicks off this fall in North America with support from Lydia Night of The Regrettes.

Over the summer, Lydia released her solo debut album, Parody of Pleasure (Warner Records), an unabashed and uninhibited embrace of the pop genre that was so formative to her.

“As a kid I was obsessed with punk because of my dad, but when I got older my mom introduced me to the pop music that stuck with me forever and inspired a lot of this record, like Gwen Stefani and Madonna and Britney Spears,” Lydia said.

Night’s songwriting gives language to the multilayered experience of women in the modern era, with unguarded honesty and the self-awareness and humor that’s been a trademark of her work since she founded The Regrettes at age 15. “Some of these songs make me want to cry, other songs make me want to dance; overall they fill whatever space I need them to,” she added.
