Before a single note played, Jason Isbell recently walked on stage at Pier Six Pavilion to 4,500 people standing on their feet applauding with great appreciation and respect for what he’s already given them as one of the most prolific artists of the past two decades. His deeply personal lyrics and vulnerability were on full display from the beginning with “Crimson and Clay,” a nostalgic ode to his home state of Alabama.

Live Review: The Warning w/ Speed of Light @ The Fillmore Silver Spring — 7/16/25

You could feel it before doors even opened. That weird electricity in the air — like the venue itself knew something was about to go down. Outside, fans were already lined up, some rocking Warning tees, others just vibing. A few teens, some older heads, even a couple of parents who clearly got dragged along but ended up loving it.

The Fillmore Silver Springs’s got that gritty (yet still corporate) charm with its exposed beams, mirrored disco ball, and sticky floors, plus a sound system that’ll punch you in the chest if you stand too close. It’s the perfect place for a band like The Warning. It was also The Warning’s first-ever headlining show in the DMV, and it sure felt like something was about to erupt when they recently took the stage.

“Gimmie My Props!,” Ab-Soul shouted into the mic repeatedly throughout his intimate sold-out DC show at Union Stage recently. The Underground Emperor has been on a tear the last few years and half jokingly stating that he’s trying to be a “real rapper” and he wants to go mainstream, with “Gimmie My Props!” as his call to action. The World Famous Soul Burger Tour, or “The Soul Burger Experience” as he and his DJ Python P called it while on stage, is in support of his album Soul Burger that dropped last November. The album is a tribute to his late best friend Doe Burger, who was tragically murdered in a December 2021 home invasion.

Wolf Trap Gets Rowdy

Wolf Trap was the place to be if you love bluegrass and jam band music. The DC area “Jamily” group showed up in full force recently when the outdoor venue in Vienna, Virginia, hosted something really special — three great bands, all on one stage for the Rowdy Summer Nights Tour. Kitchen Dwellers, Leftover Salmon, and The Infamous Stringdusters didn’t just play separate sets. During the encore, members jammed together in ways that had everyone talking long after the last note rang out.

Bristow, Virginia, July 12 — thick summer air, a wall of heat pressing against your chest before you even make it through the gates of Jiffy Lube Live. There’s a different kind of buzz tonight, though. Maybe it’s all the bands on the Brotherhood of Rock Tour, but the vibe felt locked in from the jump. Like flipping a radio dial and landing on the one station that still gets you.

We’re talking about a crowd here that’s been riding this wave since the Carter administration. The ones who spun Hi Infidelity until the grooves gave out. And now here they are — dads in REO tees from the ‘80s, moms who still crush “Can’t Fight This Feeling” like it’s prom night, and teenagers dragged along but slowly giving in to the charm. It wasn’t just a concert, it was a revival and Kevin Cronin, with that damn-near ageless grin, was the preacher.

It was about 7pm and already the crowd felt the weight of anticipation pressing down on Jiffy Lube Live. Then Don Felder’s band strode onstage as part of The Brotherhood of Rock Tour. Here was Don Felder — cool, collected, and slinging a Gibson like a guy who’s got nothing left to prove but still has everything to say.
