Honest Lee Soul at Rams Head On Stage

Honest Lee Soul performed to a packed house recently at Rams Head On Stage in Annapolis, Maryland. The band was formed in Annapolis and takes pride in being part of their local scene while also continually stretching their geographical and musical boundaries.

The core band features five members and they added two background singers to amp up the special occasion. Rams Head On Stage is an intimate space designed as a listening room, but that didn’t stop Honest Lee Soul from bringing high energy and a big sound to the stage.

At Rams Head On Stage on August 10, the first set paid homage to their musical influences with covers including The Meters (“Voodoo”, “Just Kissed My Baby”), Bill Withers (“Lovely Night For Dancing”), The Isley Brothers (“Layaway”), Muddy Waters (“Hoochie Coochie Man”), D’Angelo (“Lady”), and Maze featuring Frankie Beverly (“Golden Time of Day”).

The second set consisted of all original material and the band amped the energy to a new level. The audience was treated to a breadth of musicality, from the haunting bluesy melody of “The Water” to the screaming guitar licks of “Grand Opening.” The band also played crowd favorites “One Life” and “Testify,” title tracks to their second and third albums respectively.

They also debuted new songs, “Up For Your Love,” the New Orleans inspired “Genie,” and the especially funky “Put Some Stank on It.” “Healing” was performed as a special dedication to a fan, but its message of empathy and care is meant to inspire all.

The show lasted about two hours with a 10-minute intermission. This was the band’s third annual show at Rams Head On Stage and each time they up the ante with a different line up and new material. If you’re looking to see a band with great musicianship, songwriting, and energy, who can take you on a journey through a wide range of emotion through funky and soulful sounds, Honest Lee Soul is a great bet.
