Beer. Let’s get some local suds.

Last year, we did an evening DC brewery hike heading north from Fort Totten Metro Station and ending in Silver Spring.

With expanded hours for many of the DC breweries and the new Right Proper Production House in Brookland, we now tried a hike heading south from Takoma Metro Station.

Don’t Miss: Porch Fest 2016 @ Rhode Island Ave NE, 4/16/16

The French Admirals

Our friends The French Admirals (vocalist Rob France and bassist The Admiral) reminded us that Porch Fest 2016 is tomorrow, Saturday, April 16, along the “Main Street” of Rhode Island Ave. NE in DC.

The French Admirals themselves perform at 3pm at Public Option (1601 Rhode Island Ave. NE, DC).

“This should be a great event with over 40 bands and performances throughout the neighborhood followed by a post-party back at Public Option at 6pm. If you’re in town, don’t miss it!” said The French Admirals.

Porch Fest occurs along a number of local porches and stoops in addition to some venues like Public Option. It covers an afternoon of music, dance, and poetry in a casual environment. And it’s free to all.

“Through the years, Rhode Island Ave. NE has been home to a variety of live music venues, including what was once Mr. Y’s Jazz Club at 16th and Rhode Island Ave. NE. On Saturday, April 16, 2016, from 2 to 6 pm, the front stoops and porches of several Rhode Island Avenue NE residents and businesses will be transformed into performance spaces where local musicians will play FREE mini concerts for the community!” said Porch Fest organizers.

The event is rain or shine!

Porch Fest released a few handy graphics to help us navigate the street festival, including a map and a schedule card.

Stars and Bars: Beer Sampling @ Right Proper Production and Tasting Room (Brookland)

Right ProperRight Proper in Brookland

I finally had the chance to check out Right Proper’s Production House and Tasting Room in Brookland, which opened in late November 2015.

Upon entering, you’re greeted with an eclectic mix of artwork and well-appointed wood trim around the cozy bar and long tables.

However, the first thing you notice is just how small the space is for something with the potential to draw roving bands of hipsters and beer aficionados.

And on a Saturday afternoon it was packed, indeed almost sardine-style.

Grapevine: Right Proper’s Tasting Room Opens in Brookland

If you haven’t heard, Right Proper is expanding to the Brookland neighborhood. Their new production brewery and tasting room was meant to open this Thursday, December 3rd, as reported by the Washington Post.

But according to Right Proper’s Twitter, it opened early on Saturday, November 28th. Good news for beer lovers and fans of the trendy Brookland neighborhood!

The Washington Post reported:

“The tasting room will eventually offer charcuterie and other foods prepared offsite at the brewpub. Other plans in the works include a front patio with tables, bike racks, and planters that will be functional as well as decorative, letting Zeender grow herbs to use in his beers.

The brewery and tasting room will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and from 1 to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
