In preparation of the release of his upcoming album Hyperspace, Beck stopped by Merriweather on his co-headlining tour with Cage the Elephant.
The last time Cage the Elephant played the DC area was last fall at the DC Entertainment and Sports Arena. This time around, the six-piece band from Kentucky played Merriweather Post Pavilion at the DC stop of their co-headlining The Night Running Tour with Beck recently.
Vampire Weekend released Father of the Bride, the band’s fourth studio album, in May by Columbia Records, and it went straight to #1 on the Billboard 200. Frontman Ezra Koenig and his bandmates took to the road on The Father of the Bride Tour, and they appear at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Thursday, Aug. 29.
“Making teenagers depressed is like shooting fish in a barrel.”- Bart Simpson, 1996.
In the 23 years since The Simpsons took their playful shot at The Smashing Pumpkins’ music, those “depressed teens” have grown into adults who now have a whole new list of issues causing their anxiety. Their worries about the SATs, school bullies, annoying parents, and a bleak view for the world’s future have become fears of paying bills, a government they don’t trust, kids who won’t listen, and a bleak view of the world as it is today.
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats team up with Gary Clark Jr. for a performance, one night only, at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Sunday, Aug. 25.
As the setting sun painted the sky pink above Merriweather Post Pavilion on Saturday, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds took the stage. Returning to the DMV for the second time in a year and a half, NGHFB played a show that impressed.
Cage the Elephant released their fifth studio album, Social Cues, in April via RCA Records. “Night Running,” a track on that new album, features Beck! So perhaps then it was natural that Cage the Elephant and Beck would team for The Night Running Tour, which arrives at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Thursday, Aug. 22!
