Sports Park: Opening Day @ Nationals Park, 4/7/16

Nationals
Let’s Play Ball! But not with these.

Today is your Washington Nationals home opener!

Baseball is back in the Capitol!

The Nationals play the Miami Marlins tonight at 4pm. If you didn’t get tickets, don’t worry they play again on Saturday and Sunday. Then they welcome the Atlanta Braves for a 4-game series, starting Monday, April 11.

Find tickets here.

For today’s game, here are four things to look forward to:

  1. The first 25,000 fans to enter the ballpark through ALL GATES will receive a pair of Nationals sunglasses presented by GEICO.
  2. The 25 Millionth Fan will walk through the gates at Nationals Park. This lucky fan will receive a pair of Opening Day tickets for the next 25 years, as well as a special Nationals jersey and jacket, Nats Bucks credit, acknowledgment in-game on Nats HD and a visit to the Ownership Box.
  3. Flyover by the 71st Fighter Training Squadron “Ironmen” from Langley Air Force Base.
  4. White Ford Bronco will perform at the Budweiser Terrace.

For the upcoming season, here are four more things to look forward to:

  1. Star Wars Day – On Saturday, August 13th, the first 20,000 fans will receive a special T-shirt. And there will be Teddybacca! (Teddy as a Wookie)
  2. New food from the Pitch Your Product Culinary Contest – The two winners were Haute Dog and Fries and Pinch Dumplings.
  3. 80’s Night – On Friday, June 10, the first 20,000 fans get a fanny pack! And music!
  4. Pin Exchange – In one of the Team Stores, there will be a board with Pins, which you can add one and take one. Or you can just buy the one you really love. I mention this, because there was a really cool one from the Baltimore Orioles.

Around Town: Opening Day Fest 2016 @ Bluejacket, 4/7/16

Bluejacket Opening Day Fest

Washington Nationals baseball is almost back! Their home opener is April 7th against the Miami Marlins.

With the reigning National League MVP, Bryce Harper, leading the charge we can only hope the Nats recover from their epic fade last season.

Before the game, celebrate. Trek down to Bluejacket for their annual Opening Day Fest, to commemorate the new baseball season and the Nationals.

This year the Fest will be a block party with games and music, with all the beers from Bluejacket you can handle. They’ll also have Red Apron sausages, along with oysters, burgers and more. They will even have a ‘to-go’ box in case you need to be elsewhere…like a game.

Teddy Flying
Teddy flys in for the Nationals’ Opening Day

Monday, April 6, marks the glorious return of Major League Baseball and the Washington Nationals.

Has it really been 5 months since Game 7 of the World Series? Did the damn Giants really win it all again?

The Nationals have bolstered their pitching staff to such a degree, they have to be the odds on favorite to make the World Series this year. Seriously; Strasburg, Zimmermann, Scherzer, Fister and Gonzalez…this will be a fun year. Especially if Bryce Harper finally comes into his own at the plate.

Let’s celebrate. On a school night.

Bluejacket is here to help. They are hosting a free Opening Day Fest from 11:00am-4:00pm at Lot O, next to Yards Park and the Trapeze school, on Monday, April 6. Note: The Nationals opener against the Mets starts at 4:05pm.

There will be a batting cage, a fast pitch booth, corn-hole, live music and some family friendly games.

Bluejacket will offer eight of their beers. This includes two new ones, Goldfinch (a hoppy Belgian blond ale) and Swirl (a sour strawberry brown ale). I don’t know how I feel about Swirl yet, it sound both amazing and unlikely at the same time. Let’s find out.

There will also be food, like burgers, sausages (from Red Apron Butcher), and brioche doughnuts and fried chicken sandwiches (from GBD). Okay!

It is free to enter, but the food, drinks and games will cost between $7-10. You can also buy a package deal in advance, which includes games, food and beer.
