Hometown hero Wale was welcomed back by a sold-out crowd for his 10th and final Wale and Friends New Year’s Day show at The Fillmore Silver Spring. Beginning in 2010, Wale started throwing the yearly show as a New Year’s gift for the DMV area while also providing an opportunity to showcase local up and coming talent. This year was no different as the likes Big Flock, Beau Young Prince, and Flex Kartel were just a few of the local stars to grace the stage throughout the night.

After a series of sold-out shows on his 2019 Everything Is Fine fall headlining tour and attracting rave reviews, Wale returns home to DC with his 2020 Wow… That’s Crazy Tour, named for his new album of the same name. Wale performs at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Wednesday, Jan. 1 — New Year’s Day!

“We live our life in our own way, never really listened to what they say.”
The Bouncing Souls electrified the large crowd at The Fillmore Silver Spring on a recent, blustery night as they swung through the DMV on the tail end of the band’s 30th anniversary tour.

Editor (again): The very skillful Rashad Polk picked 10 of his photos as the best of 2019 — take it away, Rashad!

Many of our bloggers work as one-man bands. They travel to a show, shoot it, and write it up. But as Parklife DC editor, I frequently work in collaboration with others. And so I have the opportunity to travel to shows I might otherwise not see in support of bloggers who are there to shoot (usually) or write (occasionally) about the program.

A$AP Ferg’s Yedi Tour rocked The Fillmore Silver Spring this past weekend in support of his latest EP, Floor Seats. After Murda Beatz warmed up the room with a DJ set, Ferg immediately sent the crowd into a frenzy starting the show off performing the EP’s title track “Floor Seats” before heading into “Coach Cartier,” “Mad Man,” and “The Mattress” from his 2018 album, Still Striving.

Choosing my favorite photos is always a difficult task. I narrowed it down to shows I shot specifically for Parklife for this blog post.

Thinking ahead often begins by looking back. It’s a humbling exercise to reflect on the ups and downs from a year reaching its end. The decisions we made, the consequences, and how we can do things better next time.

It is an odd feeling when you love and hate something simultaneously. The emotions don’t make sense, yet it’s fully real. That is how I feel each time I am tasked with creating this year-end list. I love looking through my old photographs and remembering each concert that I was fortunate enough to attend, and reliving each show through the images that I was able to capture along the way.
